Transporting Logs to Sawmills
Floating logs (log drive), either along the ocean's shore or down rivers, was the cheapest and fastest method of transporting logs to sawmills. Therefore, sites near a river or ocean were the first to be logged and sawmills were built on the shores of the ocean or rivers.
