1910s: Donkey engine, behind spar tree, that is pulling logs to rail line.   1938: Steam power locomotive crane used to load logs onto railcars, in Franklin. Donkey engines were also used to power overhead skidders, which moved timber along wires suspended above the ground from a central spar tree.
